Did Jesus Exist? Shattering the Christ Myth (JP Holding) Part 2 of 2 – YouTube

J. P. Holding deals with the cults of Mithra, Orisis, and others in this clip and how they are falsely utilized by “Jesus Mythicists.”  Here’s the YouTube description of the clip.

Craig Johnson interviews JP Holding on the existence of Jesus. Holding has written a more comprehensive and scholarly book on the existence of Jesus (author of “Shattering the Christ Myth” [1]) than Bart Ehrman (author of “Did Jesus Exist?” [2]), although Ehrman (who is NOT a Christian) would agree with Holding that a historical Jesus existed. Unfortunately, the Internet is filled with conspiracy theories about Jesus’ existence. Some radical atheists actually believe that Jesus did not exist.

  1. For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised;
    and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied. – 1 Cor 15:16-19 NASB

    If Jesus never lived, then He could never have died. And if He never died, He could never have been raised from the dead. And if He’s not raised from the dead, we have no reason to believe that we will be raised from the dead.

    If you are right that Jesus is a myth, then you have no basis for giving people any hope for life after death.

  2. Actually, Jesus was a prince of Edessa in northern Syria. Not only are there many similarities between the Edessan princes and the NT account, one of the princes of Edessa had the same names as Jesus.

    The Biblical monarch was called ……. King Jesus EmManuel.
    The Edessan monarch was called …… King Izas Manu(el).

    And all of the Edessan monarchs wore a plaited Crown of Thorns. The biblical Jesus was crucified wearing this exact same plaited Crown of Thorns and purple royal robe, because he was this very same prince and king of Edessa.

    See “Jesus, King of Edessa”. This is a scholarly study of all the available historical evidence, including the Tanakh, Talmud, Josephus Flavius, the Roman historians, and venerable Syriac historians like Moses of Chorene and Yohannes Drasxanakertci.

  3. Ralph,

    We have the 27 documents of the New Testament which come down to us from the apostles of Jesus. No one in antiquity knew more about Him than they did. If your research does not respect their testimony, then it has no claim to our respect.
