Ravi Zacharias Quote on Tolerance

“The truth is that all religions are not the same. All religions do not point to God. All religions do not say that all religions are the same. In fact, some religions do not even believe in God. At the heart of every religion is an uncompromising commitment to a particular way of defining who God is or is not. Buddhism, for example, was based on Buddha’s rejection of two of Hinduism’s fundamental doctrines. Islam rejects both Buddhism and Hinduism. So it does no good to put a halo on the notion of tolerance and act as if everything is equally true. In fact, even all-inclusive religions such as Bahaism end up being exclusivistic by excluding the exclusivists!”

One Response to Ravi Zacharias Quote on Tolerance

  1. Susanne Schuberth (Germany) says:

Let’s say, just hypothetically, our world were a big sea with many different fish inside. The ocean were fed by various rivers, the traces of which would blur all the more, as the rivers flow into the sea.

There are both beautiful and ugly fish inside the ocean. The uglier they are, the more they hide in the depths of the ocean where the light from above cannot enter. However, regardless of the depth each and every fish has chosen, they all think that the ocean gives life to them because they eat and drink, sleep and swim, and procreate as their nature demands – all inside the waters.
Yet off and on, many a fish observes bizarre things going on. Another fish that had been affiliated to him, suddenly stopped swimming and swiftly left their familiar surroundings by vanishing toward the distant water surface. Alas, as his closest comrades tried to follow him with frantic efforts to prevent him from doing so, they realized that a dramatic change had come to pass. Indeed, as their former friend returns to them, they cry out, “Oh my – how does he look like? That’s not a normal fish anymore. Quite the contrary!!”
In fact, as soon as they asked him why he had left, he turns around by showing them a strange application on his back. They never saw such a thing before. But see for yourself how beautiful a fish with angel’s wings appears.

However, that is not the worst thing to all the other fish. What strikes them all the more is the fact that the little runaway is no longer interested in the sea itself! Even, he claims to have seen a light above the ocean that would be eternally giving life to them, if they only believed. “But we live here and now. We are not yet dead. You must have gone nuts saying that water were nothing, the rivers of no interest, and the darkness of the ocean only deception!”

Nonetheless, the little runaway flying fish won’t stop trying to convince all the other fish in the vast dark ocean to join him in swimming toward the light until they are able to see beyond the sea on their own.

[Note: the rivers signify all religions existing, plus agnosticism, and atheism, from which all fish naturally derive their distinct looks. All beliefs may differ, but none of them enables man and woman to fly on a supernatural flight into the clear heights of the light where our spirits can abide.]

“In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.” (John 1:4-10 – KJV)
