C.S. Lewis Quote on the Earth Being Enemy-Occupied Territory

“Enemy-occupied territory – that is what this world is.  Christianity is the story of how the rightful king has landed, you might say landed in disguise, and is calling us all to take part in a great campaign of sabotage.”

– C.S. Lewis (1898-1963) in Mere Christianity (Book II, Chapter 2)

This point is all the more relevant when you consider that Lewis would have been aged 42-47 during the World War II years that Britain’s Channel Islands were occupied by Germany, and therefore had some personal sensitivity to the metaphor he was using.  (I’m simply assuming that Lewis was a normal British citizen, aware of war news, but without any specific ties to the Channel Islands.)
