William Lane Craig says Young-Earth Creationism is an Embarrassment, but should it be?
I am not a scientist, nor am I very knowledgeable about issues of science. Therefore, when I hear young-earth creationists (YEC) or believers who dispute them like Bill Craig, or even atheists and others who claim that evolutionary theory is indisputable, I don’t know how to sort out the answers. I do think, however, that it’s inappropriate for Craig – though I admire him greatly for other reasons – to say he is “embarrassed” by YEC adherents.
Either YEC adherents are right…or they are wrong. If they are right, there is, of course, no reason for anyone to be embarrassed. But even if they are wrong, they likely wrong because of their faith in what they understand to be the word of God on the subject. Even if their interpretation of the Scriptures is flawed, this sort of motivation (that is, the honor of our Creator) is nothing about which anyone -least of all a fellow believer – should feel embarrassed.
