Some people think that the gospel is something that can be upheld completely independent of the culture wars about homosexuality. Yet it is important to decide whether or not homosexuality is a sin…and it’s important to the gospel. Here’s why:
The gospel of Jesus Christ provides forgiveness of our sins and calls us to turn from our sins and live righteously in the light of our Lord. If homophobia is a sin, we need to seek forgiveness, turn from it, and live in full support of homosexuals. On the other hand, if homosexuality is a sin, we need to seek forgiveness of that and any other sin of sexual immortality, turn from it, and live in sexual purity before our Lord.
To waver in uncertainty about “which side” to be on, is to remain unforgiven and unrepentant. This is hardly a state of grace and hardly worthy of the gospel of our Lord.
