The failure of the evangelical world to stand for truth as truth – Francis Schaeffer Quote

Francis Schaeffer died in 1984.  However, his words live on:

Here is the great evangelical disaster-the failure of the evangelical world to stand for truth as truth. There is only one word for this-namely, ‘ACCOMMODATION:’ the evangelical church has accommodated to the world spirit of the age. —Francis Schaeffer

  1. I agree with Francis Schaeffer here. Nonetheless, I would even go so far as to call this behavior, ‘ABJECT COWARDICE’ in view of the enemy in order to gain the advantage of living a comfortable life on earth and to be very popular with the world and worldly “Christians”.

“For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot.” (Rom 8:6-7 ESV)

“You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.” (Jas 4:4 ESV)

Well, does it make sense to live a good life which is, truly, death in God’s view, and to (finally) realize that you have lost it all?

“Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Mt 16:24-26 KJV)
