Miscellaneous Notes for August 6, 2014

(I’ve been calling these collections “Daily Miscellany,” but I’ve come to think that “Miscellaneous Notes” is a better name.  First, because I’m not writing and publishing them every day as “daily” might imply, and, second, because “miscellaneous” is a more familiar word than “miscellany” and therefore more easily digested by more readers.)

In 2 Corinthians 1:6, note especially the opening phrase:  “But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation…”  It reminds me that Paul and the other apostles endured great affliction that you and I might be comforted with the knowledge of our salvation through Jesus Christ.

When money changes hands for surrogacy, doesn’t that make it prostitution?

When I hear some Christians wanting to call fewer and fewer things a sin, it makes me wonder if there will be anything left for their Jesus to forgive?
