The Moral Majority – if it ever was a majority – has become the minority.
In the 1980’s it was Jerry Falwell and the Moral Majority. In the 1990’s, it was Pat Robertson and the Christian Coalition. In our day, it’s Al Mohler. And it’s clear that the movement Al inherited has less steam than those that preceded it. Such is the moral decline of our culture in general, and our practice of Christianity in particular.
Al bemoans society’s move toward restricting Christian expression to “pews, homes, and hearts.” But Christians themselves restricted the practice of their faith to these arenas long before society’s elites decided to impose it on them. When you live like the rest of the world six days a week and then go behave differently on Sunday morning in a building dedicated to that purpose, what is it that you’ve lost when society tells you to practice your faith only in such places? Society is merely making mandatory restrictions that you previously chose voluntarily.
