Did the people in the Smithsonian Institution who heard this stirring music think about the words they were hearing? Do we?
Joy to the world! The Lord has come
Let earth receive her King!
Let every heart prepare Him room
If “the Lord has come,” why do we act as if He has yet to come?
And if “the Lord has come,” why do we act as if He is not here?
If He is earth’s “King,” why is His name either scorned or forgotten…except at rare times like this?
And if He is earth’s “King,” why do we not honor and obey Him?
If we are to “prepare Him room,” why do thoughts of so many other things crowd our hearts?
And if we are to “prepare Him room,” what place in our lives does He occupy?
