Spitting in the Eye of God

Here’s Friday’s announcement from the White House, as posted on its website:

President Obama Designates Stonewall National Monument

Included in the article is this quotation from the president:

“I’m designating the Stonewall National Monument as the newest addition to America’s National Park System. Stonewall will be our first national monument to tell the story of the struggle for LGBT rights. I believe our national parks should reflect the full story of our country, the richness and diversity and uniquely American spirit that has always defined us. That we are stronger together. That out of many, we are one.”

Just as illicit sex perverts marriage, so this quotation perverts “e pluribus unum.”  Whereas we used to consider ourselves, “one nation under God,” we apparently now consider ourselves “one nation under godlessness.”  A nation that enshrines a place like this is thumbing its nose at God and spitting in His eye.  It’s one thing to commit sin – it’s far worse to celebrate sin and imply thereby that God is unrighteous for having condemned it.

There is also a video on this White House page (3 min, 41 sec) which gives the rationale for the inclusion of this place in the national park system.  As rape and incest are the wrongs used to justify the authorizing of the wrong of abortion, so violence against sexual sinners is the wrong used to justify the authorizing of the wrong of sex outside of marriage.  At least with abortion, the White House has not yet turned on the rainbow-colored lights.  But perhaps that’s only because abortion does not have a flag as does the cause of sexual defiance of God.

“Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.”  From the president on down, they truly know not what they do.  In fact, Americans think they’re offering service to God (John 16:2) by inventing the sin of homophobia and repealing the sin of homosexuality.  They call it being “against discrimination.”  Meanwhile, they discriminate aggressively against anyone who disagrees with them.  Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.

The Madness of the Current National Discussion

I might have commented about certain new stories in recent weeks, except that the political landscape has become so divorced from reality and common sense that it’s hard to know where to start.

If I look for a root issue, I’d have to say it has to do with society’s leaders – whether in politics, news, entertainment, academia, or elsewhere – seeming most determined to replace our nation’s Judeo-Christian heritage with the codification and veneration of sexual hedonism.  It’s hard to deny, for example, that they seem intent on replacing religious liberty with sexual liberty as a defining value of America.  They may have already succeeded.

What resistance those in power are encountering to this agenda of debauchery seems weak at best and off-base in its own way at worst.  There’s no sign of current trends downward toward further moral insanity being reversed.  If anything, such trends are increasing speed.  Americans used to be known for liberty – now we’re known for being libertines.

The current situation reminds me of these words that begin the second psalm:

Why are the nations in an uproar
And the peoples devising a vain thing?
The kings of the earth take their stand
And the rulers take counsel together
Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying,
“Let us tear their fetters apart
And cast away their cords from us!”
Psalm 2:1-3 NASB

This determination to throw off all moral restraint leads to an abdication of common sense in all areas of life – not just obviously moral ones.  For example, as our nation is being attacked by enemies motivated by a known and articulated religious strategy which will to employ any means whatsoever to destroy us…and our government is responding by debating gun control!  It’s as if Franklin Roosevelt in the wake of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, instead of calling for a resolution of war, called for tighter airplane regulation.  I don’t have an axe to grind in the debate about the second amendment; I just can’t understand why anyone would think that’s the most important discussion topic in this context.  If a city is experiencing a rash of arsons, is most important thing to discuss greater regulation of matches?  If people want a discussion about gun control, have one – but not in this context, for crying out loud!

I’ve only mentioned a couple of examples of the madness that seems to rule public discussions today – whether in news media, on social media, or in office conversations.  There is so much more that could be said.  But who has the time to sift through and sort out all the madness?  It’s multiplying!

Therefore, let us commit ourselves more fully to the Son of God, for Psalm 2 goes on to say and conclude:

He who sits in the heavens laughs,
The Lord scoffs at them.
Then He will speak to them in His anger
And terrify them in His fury, saying,
“But as for Me, I have installed My King
Upon Zion, My holy mountain.”
“I will surely tell of the decree of the Lord:
He said to Me, ‘You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.
‘Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance,
And the very ends of the earth as Your possession.
‘You shall break them with a rod of iron,
You shall shatter them like earthenware.'”
Verse Info. Notes Ps 2:10 ¶ Now therefore, O kings, show discernment;
Take warning, O judges of the earth.
Worship the Lord with reverence
And rejoice with trembling.
Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way,
For His wrath may soon be kindled.
How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!
– Psalm 2:4-12 NASB

The Son of God is able to protect us through all this madness.  Let us ever keep our eyes on Him.  More than ever.

An Antidote for the Lies

We live in a world of lies, liars, and lying.  Politically-correct speech is all about promoting and maintaining fictions.  Mendacity is corrupting all our public and private conversations.  We’re even lying to ourselves.

Jesus Christ is the antidote to all this lying.  He speaks the truth and only the truth.  He even described Himself as truth personified:

…I am the way, and the truth, and the life…
–  John 14:6

Coming to Jesus is coming out of darkness into light – that is, coming out of lies into truth.  Listen to how the Bible describes this process.

This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil.  For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.  But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.
–  John 3:19-21

Do you recognize in this passage the price we must pay to get from lies to the truth?  It is the acknowledgement and abandonment of our evil deeds.  The reason so few people are walking in the truth is that so few people are willing to turn from their private evils.  The private evils are those that only God can see.  It is a small price to pay for so valuable a commodity as truth.  Yet so many people are acting as if the price is too dear.

There is an antidote available for all the lying that is in the world.  Be sure you are willing to step up to the counter and pay for your daily portion of it.  Repent today from the sin you have been indulging too long.  Your reward shall be the light of truth – relief from the pain caused by lies.
