God Is Displeased with Us

When I say “God is displeased with us,” the “us” refers to Americans.

Because of its Christianity, God made America great.  And because of its rejection of Christianity – that is, its rejection of the truth – He is bringing America to its knees.

America has two political parties, and only one of them welcomes God-fearing citizens.  What’s noteworthy is that in the current presidential election cycle, the party that welcomes people of Christian faith has formed itself into a circular firing squad.  In other words, it is divided against itself.  The political citadel which formerly provided refuge for the people of Christ has, in the last year, collapsed into civil war.  With this turn of events, the enemies of the gospel are gaining even more power.

There is always a deliverance for those individuals and families who fear God and keep His commandments, but a deliverance for the nation itself is looking increasingly unlikely.  It appears that it will continue to be plagued with increasing corruption and mismanagement.

If God would allow the only major political party which stands against the moral insanity of abortion to tear itself asunder before our eyes, it is because we as a nation have given Him insufficient reason to intervene on its behalf.  While keeping its platform anti-abortion, the Republicans have given up on the sanctity of marriage and have tried to get us to give up on it, too.  God’s saving intervention for those who love Him will have to come in ways other than through a government that honors Him.  And we will have to look for His salvation in the midst of a declining and decadent nation – and God is surely able to bring His salvation to us by non-political means.  Only further destruction appears to be coming through the political arena.

Here are some scriptures to remember and ponder:

Righteousness exalts a nation,
But sin is a disgrace to any people.
–  Proverbs 14:34

For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?  “And if it is with difficulty that the righteous is saved, what will become of the godless man and sinner?”  Therefore, those also who suffer according to the will of God shall entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right.
–  1 Peter 4:17-19 (quoting Proverbs 11:31)

For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His….
–  2 Chronicles 16:9

…A thousand may fall at your side
And ten thousand at your right hand,
But it shall not approach you.
You will only look on with your eyes
And see the recompense of the wicked.
For you have made the Lord, my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place.
No evil will befall you,
Nor will any plague come near your tent…
–  Psalm 91:1-16

Spitting in the Eye of God

Here’s Friday’s announcement from the White House, as posted on its website:

President Obama Designates Stonewall National Monument

Included in the article is this quotation from the president:

“I’m designating the Stonewall National Monument as the newest addition to America’s National Park System. Stonewall will be our first national monument to tell the story of the struggle for LGBT rights. I believe our national parks should reflect the full story of our country, the richness and diversity and uniquely American spirit that has always defined us. That we are stronger together. That out of many, we are one.”

Just as illicit sex perverts marriage, so this quotation perverts “e pluribus unum.”  Whereas we used to consider ourselves, “one nation under God,” we apparently now consider ourselves “one nation under godlessness.”  A nation that enshrines a place like this is thumbing its nose at God and spitting in His eye.  It’s one thing to commit sin – it’s far worse to celebrate sin and imply thereby that God is unrighteous for having condemned it.

There is also a video on this White House page (3 min, 41 sec) which gives the rationale for the inclusion of this place in the national park system.  As rape and incest are the wrongs used to justify the authorizing of the wrong of abortion, so violence against sexual sinners is the wrong used to justify the authorizing of the wrong of sex outside of marriage.  At least with abortion, the White House has not yet turned on the rainbow-colored lights.  But perhaps that’s only because abortion does not have a flag as does the cause of sexual defiance of God.

“Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.”  From the president on down, they truly know not what they do.  In fact, Americans think they’re offering service to God (John 16:2) by inventing the sin of homophobia and repealing the sin of homosexuality.  They call it being “against discrimination.”  Meanwhile, they discriminate aggressively against anyone who disagrees with them.  Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.

The Madness of the Current National Discussion

I might have commented about certain new stories in recent weeks, except that the political landscape has become so divorced from reality and common sense that it’s hard to know where to start.

If I look for a root issue, I’d have to say it has to do with society’s leaders – whether in politics, news, entertainment, academia, or elsewhere – seeming most determined to replace our nation’s Judeo-Christian heritage with the codification and veneration of sexual hedonism.  It’s hard to deny, for example, that they seem intent on replacing religious liberty with sexual liberty as a defining value of America.  They may have already succeeded.

What resistance those in power are encountering to this agenda of debauchery seems weak at best and off-base in its own way at worst.  There’s no sign of current trends downward toward further moral insanity being reversed.  If anything, such trends are increasing speed.  Americans used to be known for liberty – now we’re known for being libertines.

The current situation reminds me of these words that begin the second psalm:

Why are the nations in an uproar
And the peoples devising a vain thing?
The kings of the earth take their stand
And the rulers take counsel together
Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying,
“Let us tear their fetters apart
And cast away their cords from us!”
Psalm 2:1-3 NASB

This determination to throw off all moral restraint leads to an abdication of common sense in all areas of life – not just obviously moral ones.  For example, as our nation is being attacked by enemies motivated by a known and articulated religious strategy which will to employ any means whatsoever to destroy us…and our government is responding by debating gun control!  It’s as if Franklin Roosevelt in the wake of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, instead of calling for a resolution of war, called for tighter airplane regulation.  I don’t have an axe to grind in the debate about the second amendment; I just can’t understand why anyone would think that’s the most important discussion topic in this context.  If a city is experiencing a rash of arsons, is most important thing to discuss greater regulation of matches?  If people want a discussion about gun control, have one – but not in this context, for crying out loud!

I’ve only mentioned a couple of examples of the madness that seems to rule public discussions today – whether in news media, on social media, or in office conversations.  There is so much more that could be said.  But who has the time to sift through and sort out all the madness?  It’s multiplying!

Therefore, let us commit ourselves more fully to the Son of God, for Psalm 2 goes on to say and conclude:

He who sits in the heavens laughs,
The Lord scoffs at them.
Then He will speak to them in His anger
And terrify them in His fury, saying,
“But as for Me, I have installed My King
Upon Zion, My holy mountain.”
“I will surely tell of the decree of the Lord:
He said to Me, ‘You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.
‘Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance,
And the very ends of the earth as Your possession.
‘You shall break them with a rod of iron,
You shall shatter them like earthenware.'”
Verse Info. Notes Ps 2:10 ¶ Now therefore, O kings, show discernment;
Take warning, O judges of the earth.
Worship the Lord with reverence
And rejoice with trembling.
Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way,
For His wrath may soon be kindled.
How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!
– Psalm 2:4-12 NASB

The Son of God is able to protect us through all this madness.  Let us ever keep our eyes on Him.  More than ever.

America the Sinful

It’s Memorial Day weekend.  We remember the soldiers who’ve given life and limb that we might live in peace as a nation.  We sing America the Beautiful:

America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

Alas, any “good” that God might “crown” is rapidly evaporating from our midst as we seek instead selfishness, pleasure, and vanities.

  • We kill our infants while they’re still in their mothers’ wombs.
  • We make sexual deviancy the law of the land…and coerce all citizens to honor it as if it were decent behavior.
  • We forbid honorable references to the Lord in the public square…while we allow blasphemy of Him in the name of free speech.
  • We encourage people to believe that they can change the gender God made them.

We cannot sing the joy of America the Beautiful.  We must rather moan the dirge of “America the Sinful.”  The good news is that in our lament we may find hope:

If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people, and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
–  2 Chronicles 7:13-14

We must not allow American soldiers to have died for a decadent nation.  We must repent to righteousness so as to be a nation worthy of their sacrifices.

Righteousness exalts a nation,
But sin is a disgrace to any people.
–  Proverbs 14:34

Be not joyful for America.  Be sorrowful…until her repentance brings forth the mercies of the Lord to wash our land of the flagrant and filthy sins that have so utterly disgraced us.

The Night That the Lights Went Out in Indiana

(Yesterday the state of Indiana held its presidential primary. The results of this election have determined that now both of the major political parties have their presumptive nominees.)

Righteousness exalts a nation,
But sin is a disgrace to any people.
–  Proverbs 14:34

As a nation, we disgraced ourselves in 1973 with the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision.  Rather than coming to our senses and rejecting this judicial tyranny and massive-scale miscarriage of justice, we compounded our guilt with our ultimate acquiescence to Obergefell v. Hodges in 2015.

How did we acquiesce?  Consider that the response of citizens acros the country was generally support or else silence.  The Christian leaders and organizations that did speak up immediately pivoted to the issue of “religious liberty,” signaling that they would not resist the decision – only that they didn’t want to personally participate in the ceremonies.  Where were the leaders who stood up and said, “We will not bow!”

Thus has America rejected “the Laws of Nature and Nature’s God” upon which, in its Declaration of Independence, it had justified its founding.  Modern-day America has trashed what its founding fathers treasured.  What nation has ever had such a dramatic reversal of its declared allegiance?

Therefore, our Creator has left us to ourselves.  And this is how our existence works – if we reject God, He leaves us to our own devices.  The presumptive nominees for president from the two major political parties could hardly be more unworthy of the position.  After eight years of a tyrannical presidency and judiciary, we had so hoped for some relief.  Yet, in November, it won’t be so much that we have to choose between the lesser of two evils; rather, it will largely be a matter of picking our poison.  And yet we have to admit that as a nation, we are being presented with just the kind leaders we deserve.

Yet we do not trust in political leaders anyway.  Our trust is in the Lord.

It is better to take refuge in the Lord
Than to trust in princes.
–  Psalm 118:9

Do not trust in princes,
In mortal man, in whom there is no salvation.
–  Psalm 146:3

We must give ourselves completely to His righteousness so that we have a basis for believing that He will honor our cry for help.  His mercy is for the repentant, not for the hard-hearted.  If we truly and diligently pursue godliness, He will meet us on the way.

We do not know all that awaits us in the encroaching darkness, but we do know who will be our guiding light through it all.

Do not rejoice over me, O my enemy.
Though I fall I will rise;
Though I dwell in darkness, the Lord is a light for me.
–  Micah 7:8

We walk in the presence of our Lord and we will not be afraid.  And even if we are afraid, we will trust Him anyway:

When I am afraid,
I will put my trust in You.”
–  Psalm 56:3

The faith of Mary, Joseph, Elizabeth, Zacharias and many others from biblical times survived during the reigns of wicked kings.  By God’s grace, ours will, too.

Strengthen your faith!  Encourage each other in it!

For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world–our faith.
–  1 John 5:4

How crazy must someone become before we’re willing to point out the craziness? (video)

College used to be a place where young people were taught how to reason.  Today it seems to be a place where they are taught how to avoid reason.

This video (4 min, 13 sec) comes from an organization with which I am not familiar:  The Family Policy Institute of Washington (state).  The video, however, speaks for itself.  It shows young people so open-minded that their brains have fallen out.  Alas, it was the previous generation, through the college faculty, who taught the young people to think this crazy way (if it can even be called “thinking”).

Watch college students demonstrate their reluctance to tell a 5’9″ white man that he’s not a seven-year-old 6’5″ Chinese female.  They don’t even show a desire to discourage him from entering the first grade.  Madness!

How crazy does someone have to be before we are willing to encourage them to seek help?  Alas, large portions of society now think this way.  Are we going to let peer pressure cause us to join them…or are we going to resist the urge to jettison sanity?

Why Are We Surprised at This Presidential Election Cycle?

Many American political observers have taken to describing the current presidential campaign as “the most improbable political season of our lifetimes”  – or something to that effect.  Even the most-respected experts seem “surprised,” “perplexed,” or “shocked” at the strange and unprecedented happenings in both political parties.

But why?  Did we think that in the wake of normalizing same-sex “marriage” – and stigmatizing anyone who disagrees – that we would see this same nation conduct itself reasonably and thoughtfully in the matter of selecting its next leader?

A nation weird enough to discard the definition of marriage held by all nations since the dawn of history is going to display its weirdness in other matters as well.

Why are the nations in an uproar
And the peoples devising a vain thing?
–  Psalm 2:1

The Insanity of the Secular Mind

Contrast, if you will, two different perspectives on the recent “bathroom bill” passed by the North Carolina legislature (“HB2”).

The first is from North Carolina governor Pat McCrory, as seen and heard in this video clip (4 min, 8 sec):

The second is from North Carolina CEO Bob Page in this statement to his customers, from which this is an excerpt:

Today, I take the unusual step of sending you a personal message. Perhaps you, like millions of others, have heard that North Carolina’s recent passage of House Bill 2 – which has been called the worst anti-LGBT bill in the United States – has provoked an outpouring of public concern. Among other things, HB2 bars cities, towns, and counties from prohibiting discrimination of any kind and makes clear that LGBT people may legally be singled out for unfair treatment in the workplace, housing, and public accommodations.  [emphasis added]

Really?  This is the “worst”?

As best I can tell, this inappropriately-hysterical perspective of Bob Page is winning the public relations battle so far.  Otherwise normal people are said to be sharing his letter on FaceBook.  The common sense promoted by North Carolina’s governor in the video seems to be losing out to the hysteria.

The secular mind now thinks there is something terribly wrong with wanting to protect, say, an eight-year-old girl from being confronted with sight that no occupant of the ladies’ room, regardless of age, should have to see.

The secular mind has lost its mind.

The Moral Majority Has Become the Immoral Majority

Georgia has failed to pass even a watered-down religious liberty bill, after Indiana and Arkansas had similar failures last year.  What Jerry Falwell used to call the Moral Majority has been replaced by the Immoral Majority, and this new majority is content with nothing but total victory in every encounter.  Compromise is neither necessary nor desirable to the champions of the Sexual Revolution.

The Woodstock Generation has a firm grasp on the levers of power and thereby 1960’s hippie values are prevailing in every corner of the public square.  Winning state elections, governorships, and legislatures does no good when the Executive and Judicial branches of the Federal government can override everything that is done at the state and local levels.

Big Business put the squeeze on Georgia governor Nathan Deal because it is deathly afraid of the sexual revolution’s political lobbies in the same way they’re afraid of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.  Lawsuits and negative publicity are the weapons of choice arrayed against Big Business by these respective lobbying cartels.  By contrast, Christians are just not vindictive and Machiavellian enough to succeed on such battlefields.  Only the race hustlers can “absolve a big corporation from the sin of being a racist” and only the LGBTQ lobby can “absolve a big corporation from the sin of being a bigot.”  Thus Georgia’s governor capitulated to the enemies of religious liberty without even a fight.

Of what interest is religious liberty to an irreligious nation?  No one cares about bakers, photographers, and florists having to do weddings that mock Judeo-Christian marriage ethics (not to mention the marriage ethics of almost every other civilization that has ever existed).  Why?  Because they are not a big voting bloc and don’t have a well-financed lobbying arm.

Being “on the right side of history” is just a very pretentious way of saying, “My point of view is trending is more than yours.”  It’s also a clever way of avoiding the responsibility of having to give reasons that justify a point of view.  Saying one is “on the right side of history” is intended to end discussion, not participate in it.

Yes, these days immorality is trending much more than morality.  The problem for the Immoral Majority is that history will ultimately render a verdict very different from the one they are expecting.

How and Why the Conservative Media Sold Its Soul To Facilitate Trump’s Nomination | Mediaite

This article is only for those who would like more background on the alternative (i.e. conservative) media’s role in the rise of Donald Trump about which Christian blogger Matt Walsh recently wrote (Matt Walsh on Leaders Who Disappoint).  For anyone else, the article’s probably too detailed and tedious.  It explains some of the dynamics at work in alternative media and how it is as susceptible to corruption as any other form of human endeavor.  The liberal press has its weaknesses; so does the conservative press.  Economic temptations abound for both groups

If you want to follow saints, read the Bible. Conservative media celebrities are just that: conservative media celebrities.  Matt by no means condemns them all; he just suggests we all be discriminating in our consumption of news and opinion.  I agree.  As the old saying goes, let’s be as smart as cows: eat the hay and spit out the sticks.
